Greens galore

I'm not sure what these are called - Thai spinach? But make sure your pile of greens is as big as your head at three meals a day, and you're on your way to fitness health and beauty.

Simple and fresh food is best for you, forget all the studies

Sometimes it's best not to make yourself insane reading all the yammering about studies.  Fresh vegetables and some yummy salmon with olive oil and balsamic.

Your chance to eat a whole pile!

It comes every day.  For me it was baby lettuces with extra radiccio olive oil vinegar and red pepper flakes.

Have you tried nettles?

Nettles are very good for humans, containing tons of nutrients like calcium, A, C, and iron.  They've also been used forever as a treatment for arthritis, since the stingers will cause an anti-inflammatory response.  I found them for $2 a bunch at the Saturday Santa Monica farmers market, and I tried them on my sore neck and wrists, in my eggs, and with my shrimp.  It was fun and strange to gently tap them against my sore spots and feel the minor stinging.  I did feel some relaxation later, and I thought they tasted good with my normal eggs and greens breakfast, as well as with the curry shrimp and cabbage shown.

Bitter foods are good for you

I crave arugula and radicchio, and lucky for me they're really good for you.  They even reduce sugar cravings!

The photo is salad greens topped with radicchio in oil and white wine vinegar, fried onions, and a filet mignon with ricotta salata crumbled on top.

Healthy - what does it mean?

Healthy means eating your colors. If you can walk to get your groceries, prepare, and enjoy them with loved ones, friends, or pets, even healthier.
This year, my cranberry sauce was enlivened by fresh grated ginger.

Winter is full of gorgeous tasty greens.

Organic Power to the Greens - TJ's new bagged product

I'm always looking for easy ways to add greens, thought this was pretty good.  I tried it as a salad and sauteed to go with my beef.  The leaves were fresh and crisp, and the combination of kale, chard and spinach was delicious.  It is $1.99 for a bag.

Curry Lime Coconut Sockeye Salmon

I made the same Spicely curry powder taste completely different by using a mixture of 3 parts coconut butter to one part olive oil and adding the juice of a very tart lime to my sockeye salmon (Nijiya Market). I had it with iceberg lettuce.

Greens at the Santa Monica Farmers Market

I know it is a magical place, a rare place - that Farmers Market, but I still think you should try as many varieties of greens as you can. Spigarello is just gorgeous. Apparently it is a close cousin of broccoli and can produce little florets. That means it is a cruciferous vegetable with myriad health benefits.
It is especially good in soups or sauteed with scrambled eggs. Use it as a very simple side dish for any of your proteins by just washing, cutting in ribbons and sauteeing with olive oil and crushed garlic.

Collard Green Wraps

If you're a beginner with raw greens, try this first with a sturdy piece of romaine. Your filling shouldn't be too hot or romaine will tear.

My collard green wrap had sauteed red onions, sliced collards, spinach, bison, garlic. Collard greens can take a warmer filling.

The pictures are terrible but it tasted great.

Poppa's Backyard Garden

Poppa worked his tail off and then Nandor made some fish with fresh, crisp romaine on the side.
